About the PRO ORIENTE CHRISTIANO Foundation
In May 2025, a Founding Committee was formed to establish the Pro Oriente Christiano Foundation, a project grounded in the tradition of the millennial solidarity of universal Christianity towards its oldest communities in the Middle East. The adoption of a Latin name is intended to signify this continuity.
The organization aspires to serve as a catalyst for heightened international mobilization efforts in support of the Christian presence in the Middle East, simultaneously functioning as a laboratory to translate these endeavors into tangible outcomes, primarily within the geopolitical and economic spheres, and a range of interconnected domains.
The foundational premise guiding the organization is that, globally, there remains insufficient focus on the adversities confronting Christians in that context. Moreover, even within Christian communities elsewhere, there isn’t always due cognizance of the plight frequently endured by the baptized in the Middle East, nor of the profound significance of those communities for Christianity—historically but also presently, given the immense contribution they can still offer. They preserve a priceless heritage of unique spiritual, sapiential and cultural traditions.
Christianity was born in the Middle East. For many centuries, in late antiquity, Christianity was largely a Middle Eastern story. In the view of the organization’s founders, this fact too often is not thoroughly considered, frequently neglected, and even increasingly liable to be de facto forgotten.
Given the foundational role of the Middle East as the cradle of Christianity, a profound nexus binds all global Christians to the land where their faith originated. Furthermore, the witness and example of perseverance of the baptized in the Middle East strengthen the identity, fidelity and faith of Christians across the world.
Thus, the Foundation’s endeavor to mobilize support for the cause of the Christian East is primarily oriented towards Christians worldwide, especially those nations that hold an ancient Christian tradition.
